From: FF Kevin Howe Date: 09/30/2006 Message: To vincents widow, I was grateful that Vinny left his second Bunker jacket. We were relocted to e16 at 9:am on 9/11 only to discover that my bunker jacket was removed from our rig inadvertently. So we spent a few minutes iat 29th street and we got sent to the job. I realized I had no Bunker coat so I grabbed 1 . It turned out it was Vinnys coat. We arrived at app 9:45 to the wtc.His jacket and myseh were enveloped in the cloud as we were so close to the lobby I had to run for my life. Afterward as we were having breathing and visibility problems I reached in Vinnys jacket to find a painters mask which i donned immediately. Maybe it saved me some lung damage but a few days later I returned his bunker coat to the firehouse. Just wanted to say that his spare coat and painters mask were at the collapse also, if that has any meaning to you. Im terribly sorry for your loss. I was glad to see a Street named after him.Thats the least they could do.I am retired now as I was injured in a fire in march of o3, requiring neck surgery, however I have developed lung disease since my retirement in addition to domestic and shrinks say ptsd ,divorce, etc.anyway not only was he involved but his painters mask and bunker coat were my protection also. so w/o that mask and bunker jacket im sure any lung problem im having would be worse. I just wanted to let u know.not only did he make the sacrifice. his euipment helped a brother fireman. . Again Im sorry for your loss and you should be aware that his equipment helped me also . if anyone needs to get anything as to the morning of 9/11 I cambe reached at 845 673 5004. God bless.
