From: Ed Kasubinski Date: 09/11/2004 Message: My private memory of 9/11 is of a good friend I had in high school. Jim was one of those regular guys, accepted by burnouts and jocks alike. I could relate to that. During breaks at school a bunch of us used to hang around outside, killing time, singing songs. Jim would always be there. Either he or I would inevitably toss a Beatle song into the mix. That was our big connection: the Beatles. After graduation Jim was part of the gang who scored tickets for the first McCartney tour in 1976 at Madison Square Garden. When the concert was over, I remember how disappointed he was that Paul didn't do "Monkberry Moon Delight." That cracked me up, because I always thought it was a pretty lame song, but Jim loved it. That's the last time I saw him. A few weeks after 9/11, I heard a vague whisper from someone across the Internet that Jim had died in the World Trade Center. After many attempts I finally found the obituary. The New York Times stated that he was a huge Springsteen fan. Bruce read the article and sent a video of himself performing Thunder Road to his memorial service. That completely blew my mind. I was a long-time Boss booster as well. After all that time Jim and I still had a music connection. How do you smile and cry at the same time? I figured it out that day. |

From: Scott Date: 09/11/2006 Message: Jim: On this 5th anniversary I still tear up remembering what a special guy you were while you were with us. From the annual golf outing to raise money for your relative to taking that insane test drive in the BMW 740, to your heroic actions that saved people on that dreadful day 5 years ago. Thank you Jim.... |
