22 Years Later...We Shall Never Forget

From: Paul Wiggins
Date: 08/30/2005
Message: Chuck, Although I never knew you as well as Jay did, I feel confident in telling you that rarely does a day pass where you are not in my thoughts. Our final encounter was an adventure, as you, Jay and I skimmed across the smooth surface of the mighty Pacific in plastic kayaks rented from a beachside vendor. I'll not soon forget the depth I saw peering into the kind soulful eyes of the sea otters as they skittishly peered from their beds of kelp. I watched them as they wondered who we were and why we were calling on them. Their eyes seemingly all-knowing yet their barks oddly silent as if trying to hide a thought. As we paddled towards the surfline and sand beyond, my backward glance was void of those deep kind eyes. Now, I long for a trip back to that misty morning, slipping across the smooth expanse of the deep, dark and endless ocean as if to regain the peace I then felt. The peace that will not come until I gaze once more through those soulful eyes and ask the question...Why?
